Common types of eye equipment include prescription glasses and sunglasses and prescription contact lenses. Items associated with the maintenance and care of these is also considered an eligible reimbursable expense under consumer-directed healthcare accounts.
Warranties and insurance for prescription eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses are not eligible for reimbursement under consumer-directed healthcare accounts. Eyeglass frames alone cannot be reimbursed, but a completed set of eyeglasses included prescription lenses and frames is eligible for reimbursement (Internal Revenue Service). Associated items and equipment that is considered eye equipment and is eligible for reimbursement in a consumer-directed healthcare account include contact lens items like cases, disinfectant solution, and cleaning solutions. Associated items for prescription eyeglasses include cases, cleaning cloths, anti-moisture and fog drops, repair kits, nose pads, and more.
Some eye equipment related to vision correction may be eligible with a Limited FSA. Be sure to check with your plan administrator to find out what your Limited FSA covers.
