WHOOP 4.0 is a unique wearable health device that offers continuous monitoring of important physiological data, including heart rate, respiratory rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, blood oxygen levels, daily activities, and sleep to help you better understand your overall health status and track your progress over time.
Not only does it track what you did, but it also uses a science-backed approach to offer recommendations throughout the day based on your unique physiology—whether that’s recommending when to go to bed, how to reduce your stress, or how much exertion you should take on to meet your health goals.
The easy-to-use WHOOP Journal allows you to track and log your daily behaviors like activity, diet, alcohol consumption, stress levels, caffeine intake, and more. WHOOP then calculates which behaviors help or hurt your sleep and recovery most, making it easier to build healthy habits.
You’ll receive a daily recovery score to help you understand when you should rest or when you should push yourself. You can also receive a personalized stress score from 0-3 that’s based on your HRV and heart rate. Based on your score, you can choose a breathwork session to either increase your alertness for performance or increase relaxation in a stressful moment.

1. Download the WHOOP app.
2. Log in or create an account.
Note: Android users should accept location permissions when opening the WHOOP app and logging in for the first time.
Create an account: Open the WHOOP app. Tap “Create an Account,” and follow the prompts on-screen to complete setting up your new account.
Please note that you will still be prompted to provide payment information. Once your commitment period ends, your membership will continue on a month-to-month basis. Therefore, it is necessary to keep an active payment method on file.
3. Now that you’ve signed into the WHOOP app, you’re ready to set up your device. Follow the instructions below so you’re set up for success:
Select Get Started in the app.
Firmly lift the clasp from the bottom of the device and pull to open it. Note the serial number, which you’ll use later to pair your WHOOP. Your band comes pre-threaded with new Fast Link sliders. The first time you put on a new band, you’ll need to ensure it is adjusted to your preferred fit. Once it’s fit to you, you’ll never need to rethread or adjust it again.
Slide your WHOOP on and position it one inch above your wrist bone. Pull the clasp back down to close and secure the band.
Here's a step-by-step for the first time:
- Open the clasp firmly with the WHOOP logo facing you.
- If setting up for the first time, remove the protective film.
- Slide your 4.0 onto either wrist (preferably your non-dominant), and adjust the band so that it sits on your wrist about 1ʺ above your wrist bone.
- Loosen or tighten the fit by gently pulling on the end of the band. For best accuracy, make the band tight enough so that you can’t slide a finger underneath.
Your band should feel snug, but comfortable. You can adjust the tightness by opening the clasp and pulling the loose end of the band.
Check your battery level. The light on the sensor indicates your device status. If there is no light, follow the next steps to charge your WHOOP before pairing.
Charge your battery pack with the included cable. The innovative battery pack technology lets you charge your WHOOP anytime and anywhere for 24/7, uninterrupted data collection.
Wait until it’s fully charged and the light turns green (~90 min). The battery pack is used to charge your WHOOP.
Charge your WHOOP 4.0 by sliding the battery pack on.
Once your battery pack is charged, slide it on your WHOOP. It may take a few minutes to begin charging.
Keep in mind you can keep your WHOOP 4.0 on while charging and remember that your battery pack is waterproof!
To pair your WHOOP 4.0 with your phone, first check that your phone's bluetooth is turned on. Then, look for a blue light on the side of your WHOOP, which means it's ready to be paired. Once you see your 4.0 device appear in the WHOOP app, tap on it to connect the two devices. Your WHOOP 4.0 will then be ready to use!
