Do Dr. Scholl’s inserts qualify for an FSA or HSA?
It's an activity that's often taken for granted: walking. Yet, walking is the most prevalent form of physical activity in the U.S., according to America Walks.
Most of us are on our feet every day whether by walking a short distance at home, going around our neighborhood, going to a park, shopping for groceries, or commuting to the office. It's no surprise that because we're on our feet so much that arch pain and tired feet can put a real damper on anyone's day.
Americans need a lot more physical activity (it's recommended that adults get 2 and ½ hours of aerobic physical activity a week), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Not only does regular exercise keep people at a healthy weight, but it also fights the risk for diabetes, depression and heart disease.
Foot Care with your FSA or HSA
Luckily, Dr. Scholl's inserts that treat a specific ailment, such as plantar fasciitis, qualify for a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) reimbursement. Inserts that are for general comfort would not qualify. Check out our Eligibility List to discover HSA eligible expenses (products and services) for foot care. You can also check in with your FSA or HSA administrator if you have questions about your FSA or HSA account.
Treat Arch Pain with Insoles
Arch pain can commonly occur when people have what are known as “flat feet." Flat feet occur when foot arches collapse to almost entirely hitting the ground. Studies show that flat feet can be treated in kids by going barefoot whenever possible (even better is going barefoot on a beach, if you live near one). For adults, it's been shown that shoe insoles/inserts can help men and women. Wearing orthotics can help elevate the arch in a way that adds support and could potentially reduce pain.
In addition to wearing proper shoes and limiting how often you wear heels (sorry, ladies), insoles can give the proper support to your arches.
